May opportunities for youth leaders

CSDS team just finished organizing 4 great trainings for youth in March and April. It is time for us to take a rest and look back at the amazing experience we have had.

If you missed out I COMMIT, The Leadership Challenge or Training For Trainers, don’t worry because Knowmads Hanoi Team 2 will open application very soon. Knowmads Hanoi, a form of education that challenges the students to create their own education and projects, is coming back, more powerful and creative with the network of many ideas and talented people that we have developed during and after Team 1.  New information will be updated on Knowmads’ website at the end of this week. Like Knowmads Hanoi on Facebook to be one of the first ones getting the news.

In the mean time, you, entrepreneurship lovers and change makers, may want to check out some great opportunities to attend international conferences, broaden your mind and get ready for new challenges. All of these opportunities are fully or partially funded. Hurry up because their deadlines are all in May.

1. Hurford Youth Fellows Program

  • Location: The United States
  • Duration: 4 months (you have 2 opportunities/year, check the More info button for details)
  • Participants: youth leaders from around the world who are under 30 years old and demonstrate an interest in the advancement of democracy.
  • Cost: fully funded. A monthly cost of living stipend and roundtrip airfare will be provided by the Program.
  • Deadline: 23/5/2014

Central to each fellowship will be an assignment to develop online discussion platforms that would generate active engagement of World Youth Movement members.  Each fellow will organize and lead a series of online discussions and information sharing on a key democracy issue that the fellow, in consultation with the Secretariat and Leadership Board, would identify. Youth Movement Fellows will identify, compile, present, and creatively share discussion materials and results.

 2. UNESCO ESD Youth Conference

  • Location: Japan
  • Duration: 7 – 12/11/2014
  • Participants: 50 youth leaders between 18 – 35 years old
  • Cost: fully funded
  • Deadline: 1/6/2014

Are you involved in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)? Do you have success stories and innovative ESD initiatives you could share? Would you like to meet and collaborate with other ESD youth leaders from around the world? Do you want to add your voice to youth-focused recommendations that will be presented at the World Conference on ESD?

As a Youth Conference participant you will have an opportunity to exchange your ideas and experiences with peers. You will be able to discuss innovative approaches to ESD and ways to promote young people’s contribution and further involvement in the global ESD movement. And you will help elaborate commitments to future ESD actions.

3. International Youth Forum Seliger 2014

  • Location: Seliger Lake, Tverska Oblast, Russia
  • Duration: 27/7 – 3/8/2014
  • Participants: 1000 students, young professionals, youth leaders, social innovators, young scientists between 18-30 years old from around the world
  • Cost: partially funded: accomodation, food, transportation between Moscow and Seliger Lake (and back), visa will be covered. Participants pay for travel tickets from their countries to Moscow and back.
  • Deadline: 1/6/2014. Early birth deadline is 11/5/2014. Applying by early birth deadline, you will receive the result earlier and thus, have more time preparing visa and buying cheap air tickets.

International Youth Forum Seliger unites 1000 future leaders, adventurous young entepreneurs and brave gamechangers from over 150 countries of the world to build a community of young professionals effecting positive global change. At the same time, you will discover amazingly beautiful Seliger lake and its camping area and enjoy an intercultural environment.

4. Global Entrepreneurship Summer School

  • Location: Munich, Germany
  • Duration: 17 – 25/9/2014
  • Participants: 35 outstanding students from around the world
  • Cost: partially funded. Tuition fee is EUR119 (For our international guests the fee covers part of the the medical insurance including an ambulance transport or even an emergency transfer back home). Organizers will provide accommodation, some exclusive dinners as well as many snacks and coffee during the whole week. International students who are invited to Munich can apply for 1 of 10 travel scholarships.
  • Deadline: 1/6/2014. Early birth deadline is 11/5/2014. Applying by early birth deadline, you will receive the result earlier and thus, have more time preparing visa and buying cheap air tickets.

During the Summer School the student teams develop ideas that have both a sustainable impact for society and a self-sustaining, profitable business model. The students learn about entrepreneurship, develop their own sustainable business ideas and build a long-lasting network of international excellent and entrepreneurial students. The Global Entrepreneurship Summer Schools fosters the important role of education, entrepreneurship and networking for a sustainable development. This year’s topic: WASTE.

5. ASEAN Youth Heritage Leaders Programme 2014

  • Location: Melaka, Malaysia
  • Duration: 11/8 – 15/9/2014
  • Participants: 50 Asean youth leaders between 18-30 years old with good leadership experiences
  • Cost: fully funded
  • Deadline: 16/5/2014 (the initial deadline was 9/5 and it was just extended to 16/5/2014).

6. 2014 CSETC China workcamps

  • Location: China
  • Duration: July & August 2014. There are several camps, each camp lasts 6-10 days and takes place in a different location. Click the More info button to see all workcamps’ details.
  • Participants: international volunteers between 18-35 years old from around the world who have good English capacity, communication skills and passion about Chinese culture.
  • Cost: partially funded. All the expenses such as domestic transportation, food, accommodation (Generally the living conditions will be two or four interns in one room) and sightseeing will be sponsored by The CSETC during the program time. Oversea volunteers have to cover their own international flights, insurance and visa.
  • Deadline: Apply as soon as possible for the camps you choose

In each Work Camp, international volunteers work together with national volunteers to create a culture exchange and to have a better understanding of China. There are 9 workcamps in 2014 with topics about language, culture exchange and world heritages.

  1. Thanks very much for the information, but sorry, did you mean “early bird deadline” or there is such an expression (early birth deadline)?

      Hey m,
      The expression “early bird” generally means someone who takes action before the expected time. Sometimes in conferences, events, organizers give early bird tickets to encourage people to apply early. Those early birds will get advantages like more time to prepare for the program, discount, etc, depending on the organizers.
